What to do?

Poem Thumbnail

This scourge will pass, and while we know not when,
I’m cozy enough now in my three-bedroom pen.
I’m fortunate to have food and water, hope you do as well,
and if we can check on our neighbors that would be swell.

Frequent handwashing is good, sanitize, they say
be careful of germs and watch where the children play.
It’s a good time to call family members, the ones for which you care,
or venture onto Skype, if you can tolerate their stare.

Officials give daily updates and only test if we’re blue,
their blank faces convey knowledge without much of a clue.
If you wish to get into a mood surely dark and dreary,
go online and start researching a good conspiracy theory.

It’s ok to binge-watch movies, dream large and think big,
or write letters to loved ones, if anybody still has paper and ink.
At the very least, this lockup has our lives up on end,
it’s a perfect time to curl up with a book, as if a dear old friend.

A big thing I am thankful for, when something like this strikes,
is for Dear Readers like you, who read my poems and post likes.
I’m putting faith in Mom when she said, “Everything will be fine.”
If Mom were here now, she’d be saying it online!
