Sinful Shopping

Poem Thumbnail

I ventured out in a mask this morning to score some supplies.
The nearby store had eggs and meat, plus filling for pies.
I prefer stores where people of modest means can save a penny,
where dollars go farther for those who don’t have many.

We all have to eat, I don’t view a trip there as a crime;
As a poet on a fixed income, I have to watch every dime.
I feel the urge to sometimes shop elsewhere,
but spending double for food causes despair.

The choices I make are not always the best, nor often smart,
And this morning, I made the choice to shop with a blue cart.
Give me penance, Dear Reader, and a rosary to pray,
I need forgiveness for having shopped at Walmart today.

 During this lock-down, any successful shopping trip is a win-win.
Now that you know where I shop, let the condemnations begin.
Yes, local is better, and I shop thus when able,
  but today, the Waltons put the food on my table.
